Biography:

Pianists Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic founded LP Duo in 2004. It has since become one of the most successful European chamber ensembles. Both musicians completed their undergraduate and postgraduate studies (specialized in piano duo) at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. They further studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (Germany), completing künstlerische ausbildung and Konzertexamen (KEX) studies in chamber music and piano duo with honor, in the classes of Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl.

As solo musicians and piano duo members they won so far over 30 awards at international music competitions. They won First and Special Prize at the Eleventh International Competition for Contemporary Chamber Music in Krakow (Poland), Third Prize at the Chopin Roma competition of piano duos in 2005 (two pianos category), Second Prize (the same category) and Third Prize (four-hands category) at the same competition in 2006.

After several qualification stages, together with more than 100 duos from all around the world, LP Duo entered the final stage of the competition (eight best piano duos on the Globe) at the biggest world competition Miami Dranoff Two pianos, Florida, in March 2008. On that occasion, they gave five recitals at Miami University’s Clarke Recital Hall.

In 2009 they received the City of Belgrade Award for youth creativity and the Award of Serbian Music Artists Association (UMUS) for best young artists. In 2010 they were awarded Bruno Frey Stiftung prize of Landesakademie, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. In 2011, LP Duo was awarded with the prize for the biggest individuality at the Two pianos competition inBialystok, Poland.

LP Duo has performed in numerous Serbian cities, as well as in the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, Macedonia, San Marino, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the USA, and at the festivals: BELEF, BEMUS, Museum Night in Budapest, International Composers’ Review in Belgrade, Music Biennale Zagreb, TodaysArt Festival in the Hague (Netherlands), Sarajevo Winter Festival, Days of Macedonian Music…
They performed on a special humanitarian concert for UNICEF in Germany.
LP Duo performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio-Television Serbia Symphony Orchestra and Belgrade Strings Orchestra Dusan Skovran.

They gave world premières of more than 30 contemporary pieces. Many composers have dedicated their music to LP Duo.

They recorded several CD’s. Piece Dernek for two pianos and string orchestra by Croatian composer and curent president Ivo Josipovic was published for Croatian Composer Society (HDS) in 2008. Their CD with completed works for two pianos by Danish composer Kim Helweg, was published in 2012 for record label Helikon records, Copenhagen. The newest CD Belgrade New Classics was published in 2013. in cooperation between New Art Center Belgrade and UK Parobrod.

Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic regularly held concerts and master classes of piano duos in the country and abroad and successfully promote contemporary art and new composers from region.

Sonja Loncar is assistant professor of the Faculty of Music for three years now, and Andrija Pavlovic is a docent of New Academy in Belgrade from this year.

In addition to performing activities LP Duo  compose music for theater, film, TV, dance choreography, popular music, and so on.
